Retail Banking & Financial Services

Retail Banking in and outside France
In France, the bank operates two complementary distribution networks, namely Société Générale and Crédit du Nord representing a total of 3,000 branches and 9.6 million individual customers at the end of December 2008. Our objective is to create added-value solutions to our customers’ needs. In 2009, we will expand our branch network and enhance the performance of our remote banking channels.

Through its International Retail Banking division, the Group is present in 36 countries, with a total of 3,700 branches and some 63,000 staff serving 12 million individual customers and over 800,000 companies. The focus in 2009 will be on maintaining our universal banking model while continuing to respect the specificities of local markets.

Financial Service
With around 31,000 employees worldwide, Société Générale Group’s Specialized Financial Services meet the financial and service needs of companies and individuals in France and abroad. Our strong positions in Europe will be used as a springboard in 2009 for international development in markets with strong potential. In addition, we intend to build on our consumer credit partnership with Banque Postale with a view to an operational launch in 2010.

     
Global Investment Management & Services

The Global investment management and services division (GIMS) incorporates five complementary business lines: Société Générale Asset Management, SG Private Banking, Société Générale Securities Services, Newedge (multi asset brokerage business) and Boursorama (Online banking).

It employs close to 11,000 staff worldwide. At end-June 2009, GIMS had EUR 333bn in assets under management, EUR 2,906bn in assets under custody and EUR 10.2bn in assets from online banking.

In 2009, we will continue to improve the quality of our service and our professionalism across these five businesses, while furthering development in France, Europe and the rest of the world.

     
Corporate and Investment Banking
Société Générale Corporate & Investment Banking is the Corporate and Investment Banking arm of the Société Générale Group. Tailoring solutions in terms of capital raising, financing, risk management and investment, Société Générale Corporate & Investment banking combines expertise, innovation and advisory skills coupled with quality of execution to both issuers and investors clients across equity and debt.

With 3.9 billion of euros of NBI (18% of Group NBI in 2008), SG CIB ranks among the top financial services providers in the Euro zone in terms of NBI. In 2008, Société Générale Corporate & Investment Banking was named Best Equity Derivatives Provider in Europe and Asia and North America by Global Finance. The performances of our other areas of expertise, capital markets and global finance, are also regularly acknowledged by the profession.
